Today I sustained my second bowling injury. The first injury happened about 14 months ago when I developed tendentious in my right wrist such that I couldn’t bowl for a while and it made the first few weeks of Issac’s life a little more difficult because I couldn’t hold him very well. Anyway: Injury #2…I put on my shoe cover to go and walk Isaac around to get the wetness of of the wheels of his stroller. When I got back I went to take my next practice shot and I was making my approach and started to slide, but didn’t. I ended up falling forward and sliding about 10 feet down the lane. This was quite embarrassing and quite painful. I landed on both knees and ended up with a nice bruise on my left knee. I already have some weird second bump on my left knee (I believe it is Osgood-Schlatter Disease but I haven’t had it diagnosed) and now there is a bruise right on that bump. It hurts when I walk, but the pain is decreasing.

I just wish I could bowl without hurting myself. (BTW: The shot I fell on was a strike.)

Isaac is working through his first cold right now. He is a little more fussy than normal, which is too bad because it tends to mean that he gets less sleep when he really needs more. He is doing a better job eating consistently though so that is good. You can see here that he is quite unhappy.

In some ways he is still very small. Like when when I put him in his crib, he seems so slight. But when I hold him or put him in his car seat he seems huge! Gina referred to him as her little meatball the other day.

Today we had the football golf outing/fund raiser. It was a nice time outside. The biggest thing I missed while I was doing the Summer School Principal things for my internship was being outside everyday. It has been a nice summer for it so far. This last week has been rough in terms of humidity, but at least I am not in pads.

In addition, I am still loving texting and in particularly updating my Facebook status whenever I want. I now have found that I can reply to my friends’ status on my cell. I find that this really helps me stay in touch.

One of my co-workers is very sick and so now I have been thrust up to teaching AP Physics-C (The C stands for Calculus). This is a very scary proposition since I haven’t used calc since college and really not since junior year. It is only for a limited time (we think) so I think I will survive, but I am apprehensive.

All is going. I learned recently that I don’t get paid for another 15 days which means almost 1 month with no paycheck, coupled with a lack of sub calls for Gina, this means very little income. But bills have been shuffled, and all will be well, I think.

If you know of a school looking for an el. ed. teacher, let me know.

Football is going well, although it is sukcing up A LOT of my time. This is the first Saturday I have had off, but I had to trapse up to the doctor to get a referral now that I have ventured into the exciting world of HMOs.

The cat is healthy, so all is not bad.

Take care.

An e-mail I recently received from a teacher friend:

Three businessmen and three businesswomen will be dropped in an elementary school classroom for 6 weeks.

Each business person will be provided with a copy of his/her school district’s curriculum, and a class of 28 students.

Each class will have five learning-disabled children, three with A. D. D., one gifted child, and two who speak limited English. Three will be labeled with severe behavior problems.

Each business person must complete lesson plans at least 3 days in advance with annotations for curriculum objectives and modify, organize, or create materials accordingly. They will be required to teach students, handle misconduct, implement technology, document attendance, write referrals, correct homework, make bulletin boards, compute grades, complete report cards document benchmarks, communicate with parents, and arrange parent conferences.

They must also supervise recess and monitor the hallways. In addition, they will complete drills for fire, tornadoes, and shooting attacks. They must attend workshops, faculty meetings, union meetings, and curriculum development meetings.

They must also tutor those students who are behind and strive to get their 2 non-English speaking children proficient enough to take the End of Grade tests.

If they are sick or having a bad day they must not let it show. Each day they must incorporate reading, writing, math, science, and social studies into the program.

They must maintain discipline and provide and educationally stimulating environment at all times.

The business people will only have access to the golf course on the weekends but on their new salary they will not be able to afford it anyway.

There will be no access to vendors who want to take them out to lunch, and lunch will be limited to 20 minutes. On days when they do not have recess duty, the business people will be permitted to use the staff restroom as long as another survival candidate is supervising their class.

They will be provided with two 40-minute planning periods per week while their students are at specials. If the copier is operable, they may make copies of necessary materials at this time–if there is enough paper and ink.

The business people must continually advance the education on their own time and pay for this advanced training themselves. This can be accomplished by moonlighting at a second job or marrying someone with money. The winner will be allowed to return to his or her job.

Pass this to your friends who think teaching is easy and to the ones that know it is hard. They will all benefit.
