Reminiscing About Clay — Part 2

In response to Martigyrl’s comments about my first Clay Aiken post I would like to expound on my appreciation of Clay Aiken. I was going to reminisce more in the first post, but I was getting sleepy and I didn’t think anyone would notice. :-(

I think it is a shame that he lost to Ruben. I guess Ruben was okay, but it seems to me that Clay was a much better vocalist. Neither could dance, so that didn’t matter and they were both really good people, but I love Clay’s voice. It is so clear and strong, he reminds me a lot of Ronny Dunn. In the end neither has had huge commercial success (compared to Carrie Underwood orKelly Clarkson), but I think part of that is because Clay has focused a lot of energy on other items such as his son and political causes.

One of the reasons I like his singing is that he seems to Continue Reading…

Isaac’s Starting a Modeling Career

We have gone to JC Penny for pictures twice in the last month. Once for normal 10 month pictures and once for Easter pictures. Both times now JC Penny has asked us to allow him to the in the sample book. Now, I’m not saying this will lead to an actual career, but he is an adorable baby, and if he could earn his college tuition, that would be nice. :-) Here is the first picture they wanted:

Here is another one Continue Reading…

Tonight I was inspired to reminisce about my favorite Americal Idol contestant of all time, Clay Aiken. Here is a playlist (I love YouTube!)

American Idol Top 10

American Idol really is one of the greatest shows ever created. You would think that it would be easy to put together a talent show on TV, and it is I guess. But this show has dominated primetime for the last eight years. The producers and directors have to create that kind of climate and atmosphere that makes compelling television. When Paula gave Simon the box of crayons during the show tonight I thought that was hilariously funny. My favorite Continue Reading…

Good Thing Catch Up — March 20th – 25th

March 20 — Spent a fabulous night with the Grace family and the Kane family. It was nice to spend time with other parents our age.

March 21 — The house was clean today before Gina’s Scentsy party. It was nice and will hopefully not be too short lived.

March 22 — I bowled consistently which is always good. Nice and steady scores for a 517.

March 23 — I updated the pictures on the digital picture frame in the living room. It is nice to have more recent Isaac pictures cycling through.

March 24 — Isaac went through an uncontrollable laughing fit while I was kissing him to go to bed. (Video coming soon.) I think my beard was tickling him.

March 25 — I had a good morning playing basketball. Not shooting really, but running and passing wise.

Scrutinizing the Presidential Swing Set

Since I was a kid I have always wanted to be president. I don’t see that happening now since I have made no real effort in that direction, but you never know. However, if that ever happened, what I would not like is the amount of scrutiny every little decision incurs. For example, the Obama’s bought a swing set (actually I think it was a gift according to his 60 Minutes interview) for the kids. It is located  outside of the oval office window so the president can see them playing. I love that the Obama’s are maintaining a family atmosphere. In the 60 Minutes interview he talks about spending time with the kids and the family while still running the USA. What a guy.

Anyway, out of all of this, one blog post has decided to analyze if the swing set was green enough. I am all for the environment, but I think analyzing the president’s swing set might be a little too much. There are bigger issues to tackle than this. I guess everyone has their own angle and their own lobby, but if I were president, the last thing on my mind would be, is this the most green swing set. I would be thinking, which of these swing sets look the most fun. I guess that is why I am not the president.

Software Review — Font Creator — Edit and Create Fonts

After making my own font at yourfonts.com I decided to try out another program that the company has, FontCreator. FontCreator is a program created by High-Logic. The program is a very powerful font editing and creating software and its features can be found on these other sites: Genius Share, ilham-links.

What these two sites don’t do, is they don’t try out the program at all or see if it works. I chose to take the new font I made earlier and try to make it a little better. The original font has several unaligned characters and different sized character. I wanted to make them uniform and lined up nicely. Here is the font as it stood after I created it:

My Font -- The Original

So, the capitals looked okay, but it looks like the lowercase g, m, q, r, & w need to be corrected. In Font Creator you are able to Continue Reading…

Ace “Rewards” Coupon

Tweet: Had to spend an extra $1 at #Ace because I couldn’t use my $5 “Reward” coupon for a $3.99 purchase and couldn’t find anything for $1.02.

So, I went to Ace Hardware to buy a switch for the basement stairwell. I wanted a black flat switch, which they didn’t have, so I got a white flat switch. The switch coast $3.99 and I had a $5.00 Ace Rewards coupon. I got to the register and the total was $4.27. The cashier informed me that I had to spend $5.00 before tax in order to use the reward. So, I went to find a candy bar which cost $.99. I went back over to the register and now I had only spent $4.98. I asked the girl just to charge me $.02 and she said she couldn’t do that. So, now pressed for time, I went and grabbed another candy bar. This brough my total fo $6.14 (I think) and so I had to pay them $1.14.

In the end, I got a $4 switch for about $1, but I still find it absurd that I have to spend the full $5 in order to use the coupon.

Good Thing 18 & 19 March

18 March — Today I gave a test over uniform circular. The test seemed to be well constructed as pretty much all of the students finished on time and no one yelled at me. Yeah!

19 March — We started the electrostatics chapter today. This chapter can be full of many unintended innapropriate phrases. Today, for instance, I legitimately said to a group, “make sure you rub those balls to get them ready for the next group.” They started laughing and then I realized what I said. Good stuff.
